Taskbar Buddy: A Pet for Your Desktop

A little pet that actually lives on your desktop. It strolls along your taskbar, climbs onto the edge of your windows for a nap, and comes over with a letter when a reminder is due. The window is click-through wherever the pet isn't, so it never gets in the way of your work.

What it does

Walks along your taskbar, and perches on the top edge of whatever windows you have open.
It follows the window as you move it, and drops to the next surface when the window closes.
Pet it, feed it, pick it up. Let go and it falls under gravity, with a reaction on landing.
Multi-monitor aware — it walks across to your other screens, and handles mixed DPI setups.
Keep several at once. They greet each other and curl up together for naps.
Reminders: set a time and the pet walks over carrying a letter to tell you.
Make it yours: swap characters, change the size, write your own phrases, tune how often
it does things.

It stays out of your way

The pet lives in a transparent always-on-top window, but clicks pass straight through it wherever the pet isn't. The window underneath keeps working normally. It never steals focus, never appears in the taskbar, and never shows up in Alt+Tab.

Privacy

No analytics, no tracking, no advertising, and no personal data collected. It makes no network requests until you choose to unlock additional characters (the one exception is the website edition, which checks for app updates and sends only the current version number). Reminders you create stay on your own computer and are never transmitted.

Download

Both editions are free to download and use; install whichever you prefer. The built-in characters are yours from the start; extra characters and pet slots in the in-app shop cost Pet Gems, and are entirely optional.

Installed and updated by the Microsoft Store.

Direct download from this website (always the latest version)

Run the installer after downloading. It installs for your user account only, so no administrator rights are needed.
The app checks for updates on its own, so you won't need to come back for new versions.
Includes the optional Pet Universe link-up (not available in the Microsoft Store edition).
If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", click "More info" → "Run anyway".
The installer itself is currently in Traditional Chinese only.
